Is Every Man Really Cut Out To Be A Father?

by Gregg Hall

When a man first learns he will be a father, a bit of pride wells up inside of him. This is the child of his making. He celebrates, for hope has found a new life. Every man must indeed be proud of his children. The child is a reflection of the father and the mother. The prospective father talks with excitement. His range of emotions is beyond measure.

Men respond in different ways when they first learn their child will be born. They are surprised by the initial news. Becoming a father is an exciting event. When the response to fatherhood is shared, the excitement is contagious. Everyone rejoices with the announcement a child will be born. We know the world will never be the same again. A new little person is coming to join the human race. A father awaits the birth of his child with love as he contemplates the happy event. He accepts the responsibility of providing for his family as he works hard, anticipating the special day when his child will be born. In a moment of concern, he vows he will protect his family forever.

The human response to fatherhood is one of protection for his wife and the child. Men fulfill duty and responsibility with different levels of concern and performance. Some men respond with the greatest concern while others remain aloof, unconcerned. A man with genuine concern is sensitive to every need at this delicate time. Each man chooses the way he carries the weight of responsibility for his own family. Even if he does not respond to family needs, every man feels responsibility for his children. He must be part of the birthing process, when the baby comes. Love is the measure that drives him when he has reached his lowest peak. Fatherhood is a reflection, a reminder of this duty. A man remembers his responsibility.

Some men show sensitivity, and respond with positive actions for mother and child. When they learn of their fatherhood, they form a new commitment and they keep their promises. They are helpful with every need. Their life is changed because they now have a unique opportunity to serve another person as the father of their child. This bond is sacred. It is built on love and trust. Every father is called to these deep responsibilities.

It is elementary that a man would care for his family. From the beginning of time, men have protected women and children from danger. Knights fought to preserve the life of the land. Fathers know they must protect their family. Accepting the role of fatherhood shows growth for it takes a mature man to be the father for their child.

Some Of The Secret Wishes Of Fathers

by Gregg Hall

When Robert Louis Stevenson penned these words, he gave the world a complete menu for a positive attitude through life. "The world is so full of a number of things I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings". What would a king desire, more than his kingdom? What secret wish would he need or want?

A Father knows the needs of his children, as he provides for them. His treasured secrets are for his wife and children, the kingdom of his heart. What does he want for Christmas for himself? What special present would best fulfill his dreams?

The Christmas list, Dad's secret wishes, must be deciphered with careful scrutiny by members of the kingdom. What does Father want for Christmas? Often Dad does not present his wants and needs in a neat little package we call a Christmas list.

He keeps them secret in his heart. The secret of love that Christmas brings is a gift that we who learn to give a piece of our heart away will understand the needs of others. It is difficult to know what someone else wants for Christmas as the secret wish list is often tucked away. Nevertheless, there is a window in each heart. Often we look through the glass and decide for ourselves what is inside, but in the clear darkness we never really know.

Everyone in the kingdom looks to the best for Christmas. The king is open to listening and life is quiet and peaceful and seems easier. The gift for the king is still not tallied; no one is sure of what to buy. Would a new shirt, a tie, with socks to match, or a whole new outfit be a proud affirmation of Dad? Socks are always reliable as a gift for Father, for he understands the difficult part of choosing a gift and he appreciates our love and effort. He receives all of our gifts with a grateful heart.

Does Father enjoy sports? Golf or hunting, or travel? Consider what he most needs for his favorite hobby. At this time of year, the South Dakota scene includes new togs for pheasant hunting. A hunter can always use a new outfit so he will be warm and dry. A gift of the new gun he has been wanting will bring added excitement to his hunting experiences.

Every Dad appreciates a gift that is handmade for him. A Father can see the depth of love in such a gift. It is a gift that cannot be measured in dollars and cents. The thought and effort of an original creation is a reflection of the heart. It is no secret. This gift is custom made, given with special love.

How will we know when Father's secret wish list is complete? When we thought we had found his secret wants and needs, we hastened to gift him with what we thought was best for him. What if his secret wish list is really acceptance and appreciation of whatever gifts he receives?
